Passenger Education: Driver Made Reservations

Whenever we pick up the telephone and hear "Hi, I made a reservation with the taxi driver and was calling to see how long the car will be"  we know there's a problem.  Usually it's perfectly fine to tell your driver that you will need to be picked up but there are some certain circumstances where this is not a good idea.  Ahem. 

You should not book through the driver if you are:
    1.  Booking an airport pick up or drop off
    2.  Booking any reservation that is a few days in the future
    3.  Booking any time restricted reservation

In other words, if it is extremely important, always call the office of any taxi/car service to book and then always call the day before to confirm.  Taxi drivers are always on the go and a driver made reservation can slip through the cracks between one ride or another.  The company dispatcher is in charge of moving the taxis around.  You will not make your flight/appt if the dispatcher was never informed of your driver made reservation and there are no available taxis to accommodate you.  Missing a flight/appt is the worse case scenario.  At the very least you may arrive late.

Here's a little known fact about visiting New York while staying in New Jersey; it turns into a pumpkin at midnight.  No.  Really.  

Take your bus schedule and peruse closely.  You will see that most buses from the Port Authority in Manhattan stop service somewhere around 11pm and most trains from Penn Station stop running around 2am.  Service does not resume until between 4 and 6am the next day.  Your only option to avoid a short stint as a homeless person in Manhattan?  Take a cab or make it back before your coach turns into a pumpkin.  Where's a fairy god mother when you need one?

Just a small note about taking a cab back to New Jersey.  Yellow cabs in New York can refuse to take you anywhere in New Jersey other than Newark Airport.  Yes, yes, yes, our roads in New Jersey can be slightly....okay they're downright confusing for the uninitiated and U-turns can be hazardous to your sanity sometimes.  We can understand one of our yellow cabbie brothers and sisters refusing to take you anywhere.  That's where the New Jersey cabbie who brought you to New York, or who wished he did since you may have taken public transport, comes in.  Make a reservation for a return trip during your pick up or call at least an hour before you need the cab.

New Jersey cabbies, who do know where they are going in New Jersey and New York can pick you up in New York by reservation only.  Our New Jersey cabs are in New York all day long dropping off at the airports, upstate and the five boroughs.

The only reason I can state for New Jersey not having as massive a transit system as New York is that we actually like our grass, trees and flowers where they are....in the ground.  They don't call New Jersey the Garden State for nothing you know.

Please note that #48 & #56 are no longer.  #48 will become LA Fitness and #56 is now Raymour & Flannigan.  New restaurants and a theatre are under construction as we speak.  The Wal-Mart is under construction in the process of becoming a Super Wal-Mart.  Ouch!  I just envisioned that yellow smiley face with a cape. The Ameri Suites is now the Hyatt Place.

The New Meadowlands Rail Line

The new Meadowlands Rail Line opened on July 20th 2009.  It will run from Penn Station New York, Hoboken Train Terminal and Secaucus Train Station to a stop right in front of Giant's Stadium. 

Now I know everyone is anticipating a post filled with our company decrying this new train station as the one thing surely guaranteed to put us out of business.  I apologise to everyone who expected that kind of response.  We are actually very pleased and happy that the new rail line is being built.  One reason; we cannot pick everyone up and it was an absolute traffic nightmare.

There are intersecting towns around The Meadowlands Sports Complex; Rutherford, Carlstadt, East Rutherford, Secaucus, Moonachie, Lyndhurst and Union City.  Out of these towns there are several taxi services.  During an event traffic immediately stood still and not a single taxi service would be able to guarantee a taxi due to the previous traffic configuration and public transport service.

We experienced in the past drivers who went into the stadium early to pick up only to stand in traffic inside the stadium for a good hour and a half before leaving the stadium for their destination.  Meanwhile, there are thousands of telephone calls coming through the switchboard.  Companies in Rutherford, Moonachie, Carlstadt, Lyndhurst and Union City refused to send any taxis in during events and the majority of the load fell to our town of Secaucus.

We love our passengers and would brave horrendous traffic conditions, rain, snow and hurricanes for them but we prefer you to be, well, happy.  I know you will agree with me that if you are standing outside of a stadium at 3am after calling several companies, being declined service, only to reach Secaucus and be told you have to wait 1 1/2 to 2 hours, you would be upset.

I do want to stress that we have no intention of deserting you, our passengers.  We love you guys!  We just want you to be happy and enjoy your stay in New Jersey.  Happy passengers make happy drivers.  No, not necessarily in a monetary sense for those of you who are thinking that.  When a passenger is happy, the trip goes smoother and the stress on our drivers is decreased.  Having a calm passenger in the car ensures the safety of all. 

So, no, we have not deserted you.  The train station will provide you with more travel options while we will still provide quality travel to local and long distance destinations not readily accessible by public transit and special requests (child seats etc).   We have no qualms with providing you with correct bus/train information or mentioning them as an option to avoid overspending.  As we said before, we prefer happy passengers.

Stranded Passenger & Airline Taxi Transportation Vouchers

We accept stranded passenger ground transportation vouchers from various airlines.  As long as the airline is still in business, the voucher has not expired and the passenger understands that they will be responsible for making up the difference of the trip, we are okay with accepting them.

Simply notify dispatch that you will be paying via an Airline Ground Transportation Voucher and hand the voucher to the driver when you are picked up.  Simple as pie.

Taxi Service with Child Seats Available

 

Child seats are available upon request for traveling families at no additional charge.  From Infant seats, to toddler seat and booster seats, all sizes are currently available.  Please mention the age of your child and the type of seat needed when making your reservation.

Child seats are optional for taxis but we prefer safety first.  For those who will be picked up at the airport and will be renting cars in the future, the child seat laws are for children under 8 years AND 80 lbs. in New Jersey.  If your child is over 8 years of age, a child seat is not necessary.  If your child is over 80 lbs a child seat is not necessary.

Pets Friendly Taxi Service

Domesticated Pets are welcome as long as they are crated for their safety.  No exotic pets, such as large cats, large mammals, large reptiles or venomous reptiles will be allowed within the confines of any of our vehicles.  In case you are wondering why we mention this, a past passenger wanted to transport his kitties which turned out to be a pair of adolescent tigers, so no exotic pets.  Regular domesticated animals?  Yes.  Exotic pets?  No, no, no, no, no.
